"Hollywood's Favorite Magician" Jeff Black has an extensive street wand collection. It includes many sizes, colors, and varieties of ironwoods. For every gig, he had selected the perfect wand to match the venue. Darker environments benefited from a lighter colored Lignum Vitae wand. Blackheart wands held up to repeated cups and balls performances. The Snakewood enchanted everyone who saw it. His wand magic repertoire grew, as did his audiences' reactions to it. Still, something was missing.
Jeff wanted something decadent and flashy while remaining functional and durable. After many discussions and some R&D, he commissioned his fantasy wand. The core would be the toughest available, our proprietary Blackheart Ironwood. To make distinct tips, he decided on the strongest exotic leathers in the world, Stingray and Shell Cordovan.
Stingray is considered the second toughest leather, beneath kangaroo. The random direction of the skin's dense collagen fibers provides structure, and the calcium filled bubbles on the surface protects it from damage. The polished nodules glisten like gems on a crown, even under faint light. As wand tips, stingray is eye catching, durable for tapping other objects, and easy to grip.
Shell Cordovan leather is magically robust fibrous tissue layer obtained exclusively from a limited section of equine hindquarters. The unique Shell fiber layer is a cross between muscle and tendon. The tissue is denser than other leathers made of hide. Its sheen, smoothness, and durability is renowned. It takes six months and dozens of steps to process each small piece into the final product. Only a handful of tanneries around the world produce it. Tough, smooth, and rare, shell cordovan is used to make $500 wallets and $1,500 shoes. Cordovan is considered the "Rolex of leathers" for its enduring quality— they can be used and passed on from generation to generation. The Shell Cordovan body of the wand is elegant and subtle. Unlike cowhide, it gets dimples and creases rather than breaking upon impact with cups or other objects.
Hand-stitched and tightly wrapped around the Blackheart core, the Stingray and Shell Cordovan transform into a Magic Wand. It is large and heavy enough to spin with ease while being just the right size for vanishing and producing. The leather wrapping also minimizes "talk" during the Vernon Wand Spin Vanish or Williamson Striking Vanish.
